I wrote the NHL Fan Song after listening for days and days to the rhetoric coming from both sides of the 2012 NHL lockout. Wealthy owners and wealthy players unable to come up with how to share the $3 billion that the league was set to receive from TV and ticket revenue this year! Come on.
Some of the players should be reminded about what stocking shelves is like or working in a mill. They're doing all right.
And I know that the owners are all well off, otherwise how would they be able to buy a pro sports team in the first place? But does that mean that they can ignore the millions of dollars of revenue that's going down the drain every day from missed ticket sales and TV revenues? I think not.
Now I know that one of the problems here is that they are all competitive people and they hate to lose. That's how they got to where they are now. I understand that. But it appears that Gary Bettman and the owners "won" the last negotiation, so the players are not going to let that happen again. The egos are bruised and they're fighting back.
The result is an impasse. So here we are. As a hockey fan, I'm not amused!
So, one day, while plunking my old 12 string guitar I was singing the old Stealers Wheel song - "Stuck In The Middle With You" and it occurred to me that that's where we NHL hockey fans were - stuck in the middle. So I rewrote the lyrics and recorded it on my computer and here are the results.
I hope you like it.

I'm sure this was inspired by the gymnasium "sock hops" from the '50's and '60's.
